Another Lake Monroe Adventure

The day before classes began at Indiana University, the Optometry program hosted a grill out at Lake Monroe. We took the dogs and went to eat hamburgers, hot dogs, etc. We met and talked with several classmates and played bean bags (called corn hole in Indiana). Then we took the dogs down to the lake for a swim!

Herky & Molly in Black and White

Our friend Lezlie had a black and white disposable camera that she got some pretty good shots of Herky and Molly on, so I thought we'd share a few.

Herky and Molly go to Lake Monroe

We went to Lake Monroe, just outside of Bloomington, with our friends Josh and Lezlie for a grill out with Best Buy employees and friends (where Josh works). We decided to take Herky and Molly along so they could play in the lake. It was a very humid day with no breeze, so Lezlie and I were happy to walk into the lake with the dogs. Herky has always loved water and happily went out pretty deep and swam around. Molly was quite so eager, but she did walk out pretty far and liked chasing Herky in the water. Meanwhile Josh and Nick played football with a bunch of the guys. We ate hot dogs, chips, and other sides people brought. On the ride there the dogs were very playful and wouldn't leave each other alone. The lake must have really worn them out, because they slept on the way home!

Herky Plays in Water

We decided to fill up a plastic tote and let Herky play in the water since he seems to love water so much. He had a blast for about 5 minutes in the water and then he just ran around the grass soaking wet after that. Probably because there wasn't much room to move around in the tote...we plan to take him to the lake sometime soon so he can play in a much larger area of water!

Townhouse Tour!

We finally took pictures of our townhouse! It will take up a couple of posts to show all the pictures, because I can only post so many pictures per post. The first picture shows the front door to our townhouse. The next picture shows what you see when you first walk throught the front door. If you turn to the left, you are in the kitchen which is shown in the next two pictures. If you continue straight down the hallway, you will find two large closets to your right (under the stairs), and a half-bathroom to your right. The last picture in this post shows that half-bathroom.

Tour Part 2

Okay, the first picture in this post just shows the opposite direction into the half-bathroom downstairs. We have the baker's rack that used to be in our kitchen in there now, used to store Herky's stuff and display our fountain and pictures. The next two pictures show our living room including the tree in the corner that we found by the dumpster, our new TV, the fish tank with some little cichlid fish, and the couch we finally get to use!! The last two pictures show our back door and "patio" area, and the grassy/tree area in between the buildings which Herky loves.

Townhouse The Upstairs

This last post shows the upstairs of our townhouse. There is a landing at the top of the stairs which has a small linen closet. At the top of the stairs if you turn to your left, you will be in the bedroom! The first two pictures show this room, including the TV that sadly stopped working somewhere between Cedar Falls and Bloomington...There is one larger closet in the bedroom. The full bathroom is rather small, but it does have a double sink! And finally the last two pictures show the office which is straight ahead as you come up the stairs. We put our old loveseat and comfy office chair in here to make it a great study spot! Plus of course the desk and plenty of bookshelf space! There are another two closets in here for storage as well! So far we really like it here, and there is even a pool up by the office building. We haven't heard our neighbors at all, so either the walls are fairly thick or we are just the loud ones!

Herky Discovers Himself and a Turtle

Herky will be 12 weeks old this week! He weighs 17 pounds now, and he is constantly discovering new things here in Indiana. Today I was hanging up pictures in the living room and had a full length mirror resting up against the wall. Herky saw his own reflection and didn't really know what to think. He whined some and my mirror is covered with puppy drool and paw prints now. I think he finally realized that there wasn't another dog looking at him! Our neighbors have a desert tortoise named Zippy (I think) and Herky is very interested in him. The tortoise doesn't seemed too bothered by Herky, but we try to stop Herky from playing with him because who knows what he will do!

Herky's New Friend

Well, we have been in Bloomington, Indiana for 4 days now! Our townhouse is slowly but surely coming together as we continue to unpack boxes. Once we get everything finally arranged, I will post pictures. In the meantime, here are some pictures of Herky. He has made friends with Molly, a border collie mix puppy, that belongs to our friends Josh and Lezlie. They live 4 doors down in the same townhouse complex that we live in. Lezlie is in the optometry program as well, and attended UNI with me. Herky and Molly seem to be pretty good friends, but they can play pretty rough sometimes too... Herky will start obedience classes in a week, so hopefully he will learn some new tricks (and maybe to stop barking - his new favorite thing to do).
