Herky's Owie

Herky has a story to tell:

My first birthday is this weekend, and I thought you were supposed to get nice presents for your birthday! But instead I got a present that was no fun today. While my mom was at class today and my dad left to run some errands, me and my big brother Kinnick thought it would be a good idea to do some counter-surfing. Kinnick knows that the bread is kept in a wooden bread box and he likes to try to get the bread out sometimes. Well apparently, when he pulled it off the counter, I was standing a little too close and the sharp corner came down and hit me in the face right below my left eye! OUCH! When dad came home, he was surprised that I didn't really bleed much, but he knew the cut was pretty deep! He took me right to the vet and they gave me medicine to make me really sleepy and then they put 5-6 blue stitches in the cut! I am home now, but I do not like my birthday present! Plus Mom says now we can't go swimming for my birthday this Saturday...the silly vet says I can't get wet for 10 days...boo...I hope my first birthday has some better surprises and presents than this!

New Camera

The battery on my five year old digital camera has been having problems charging lately, and after it finally died last month, we started looking at buying a new camera. We knew that with three weddings and several other events to attend this summer, we wanted to have a good, working camera. We had looked at several models and read reviews online, but hadn't found anything we liked that was reasonably priced. One weekend our friend Josh who works at Best Buy told us that they had an 8 megapixel Nikon camera on special. For $150 you got the camera, battery, charger, 1 GB memory card and matching case. The only drawback is that the special was only good on the plum (purplish) color camera. After looking at it in person, Nick decided he could live with it and we bought the camera. Now we can take more than 5 pictures without our battery dying! So of course, I had to try out the camera on my most willing subjects - Herky & Kinnick! Here are the results!

Dog-Sitting Weekend

The weekend after finals (May 1st - 4th), we dog-sat for a friend of ours, Kelley. She has a goldendoodle (mix between golden retriever and poodle) that is about the same age as Herky. His name is Ziggy, and he got along great with Herky and Kinnick. I think it made us realize that two dogs is definitely our limit right now (at least until we have our own yard!), but we had a really great time with Ziggy.
